End of Summer Outage
Summer outage at the VR-1 reactor is at the end. Building of the new core is underway this week. During the next two weeks the operational checks and tests of the new reactor core will be performed and the manipulating vessel H02 will be cleaned. Full operation will start at the 16th September.
Summer Outage
An annual outage started at the VR-1 reactor. This week is being dismantled the reactor core, next week the reactor vessel will be drained, cleaned and inspected. During the outage many controls of the reactor components will be realized. Building a new reactor core is planned to first week of September and start of full operation is preliminarily planned to 16th of September.
New control rod is tested
This week arrived a new control rod which was manufactured in the Škoda JS machinery. This rod is placed in the manipulating vessel H02 and will be tested in this vessel. In the near future is planned to replace current control rods by new ones.
Training course for the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology
Reactor VR-1 held a course for the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology. It is Saudi Arabian institution that supports scientific research which coordinates the activities of government institutions and scientific research centers.
First week of the course was focused on radiation protection and took place mainly at the National Radiation Protection Institute. Second week of the course was focused on reactor physics and took place at the VR-1 reactor. At the beginning participants became familiar with the workplace of the VR-1 reactor, then underwent some practical exercises focused on neutron detection and reactor physics and at the conclusion of the course participants tried to control a reactor under a supervision of reactor personnel.
